Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy is set for a far lengthier incoming spell on the sidelines than previously feared.
This comes amid the alarming understanding that the Frenchman is unlikely to return to the pitch for at least the next 12 months.
Defender Mendy was earlier this week confirmed to have suffered a fresh injury setback.
After limping out of Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Espanyol, the former Lyon standout was announced to have picked up ‘a tendon injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg’.
Ensuing reports pointed towards a likely spell of around five months out of action for Mendy.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then the situation appears to be far, far more serious.
As per a report from Real Madrid insider Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE:
‘Ferland Mendy’s injury is very serious. There is a tendon tear with bone separation. He will be out for at least a year.’
