Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. was on Wednesday targeted in harsh fashion by large sections of the Benfica fanbase.
This of course comes after the Brazilian was at the heart of major controversy last week.
In the first leg of the Champions League playoff tie between the clubs, Vinícius was the subject of alleged racial abuse on the part of Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni.
This gave rise to a heated exchange, with Prestianni having picked up a suspension as a result.
As alluded to above, though, the bad blood has not ended there…
Real Madrid are currently back in action against Benfica, in the tie’s return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Vinícius, as expected, was afforded a starting berth for the evening, amid Los Blancos’ efforts to book a spot in the Champions League’s Last-16.
And the travelling contingent of Benfica supporters in attendance in Spain’s capital have not been at all shy in making their feelings with the 25-year-old known.
On each occasion on which Vinícius received the ball early in proceedings on Wednesday, he was met with a chorus of boos, whistles and jeers from the Bernabéu stands.
