Real Madrid star speaks out on deleted tweet controversy after Euro 2024 snub

Real Madrid star Lucas Vázquez has provided his take on the controversy surrounding his latest activity on social media.

For those who may have missed it, Vázquez turned heads online on Monday.

As much came upon the versatile defender unveiling a post on his official ‘X’ account, featuring little more than a pair of laughing emojis.

Under normal circumstances, the post would likely have attracted little attention.

However, it came mere hours after word was forthcoming that Vázquez had been omitted from the Spanish national team squad for the upcoming European Championships.

With no context accompanying his since-deleted post, the assumption, understandably, was in turn that the 32-year-old was making clear his disillusionment with the call of La Roja headmaster Luis de la Fuente.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of as much, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his latest social media activity was put to Vázquez himself.

In quotes gathered by Marca, however, the long-time Real Madrid man assured that the situations were in no way linked, before wishing his fellow countrymen the best of luck at Euro 2024:

“I have seen that a good thing has been formed with that but well it had nothing to do with it because in fact I posted it quite late, it was a reply to a tweet but it was not for that reason and I have seen what has been formed and well simply deny it of course and give maximum support to the team, as you all know I have always been very pro-team and encourage them to win that Euro Cup and bring it back home.”
