Real Madrid star reveals what would need to happen for him to retire next summer

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has admitted that, under a specific set of circumstances, he could be convinced to retire in 2026.

The player in question? Dani Carvajal.

Stopper Carvajal is for his part of course fresh off his return to the pitch following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

The 33-year-old has played his part in all three of Real Madrid’s fixtures over the early weeks of the new season.

As much culminated in a recall to international duty last month, with Carvajal having been selected by Spain for an upcoming pair of World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Turkey.

After linking up with his international teammates early this week, the right-back in turn sat down for interviews with a number of media outlets.

And as alluded to above, during one such discussion, Carvajal revealed the circumstances which would see him immediately retire from football in 12 months’ time:

“Retire if I win my 7th Champions League & first World Cup? If that happens, I’ll retire, not because I don’t love football, but it’d be a fantastic scenario.”
