Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has revealed that he sent a piece of simple advice the way of young teammate Víctor Valdepeñas on Sunday evening.
The advice in question? Enjoy youself.
The name of starlet Valdepeñas of course dominated the headlines surrounding Real Madrid late last night.
This came after the 19-year-old was afforded a first-ever senior start, in Los Blancos’ La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alavés.
Amid the ongoing injury crisis in Xabi Alonso’s defensive ranks, Valdepeñas was tasked with filling in on the left.
And the Spaniard, all told, went on to enjoy a solid evening’s work, impressing onlookers despite his evident inexperience.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in a 2-1 triumph for the visitors to Mendizorrotza, one of the leading figures in the Real Madrid dressing room, Federico Valverde, was therefore asked if he had any advice for Valdepeñas before kick-off.
And the Uruguayan went on to explain:
“What advice did I give to Valdepeñas? Simply to enjoy. Playing for Real Madrid is something unique, something that all young players dream of. He did spectacularly; he defended the badge like no other.”
