A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has been hit with a two-match ban on the continent.
The player in question? Dani Carvajal.
Stopper Carvajal was for his part given his marching orders during Real Madrid’s Champions League season opener earlier this month.
This came owing to a moment of madness on the part of the 33-year-old.
En route to a 2-1 victory over Olympique Marseille, Carvajal directed a needless headbutt at Gerónimo Rulli.
After the incident was looked over by VAR, the Spanish international was shown a deserved red card.
And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, Carvajal and Real Madrid have learned the extent of the sanction facing the right-back.
As per Blancos insider Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE:
‘Carvajal, sanctioned with a two-match ban for his expulsion against Olympique de Marseille.’
As much means that Xabi Alonso will not be able to call upon his experienced full-back for either of Real’s upcoming fixtures against Kairat, or Juventus.
