A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Tuesday dropped out of the club’s starting line-up for the first time all season.
The player in question? Álvaro Carreras.
Defender Carreras is for his part of course fresh off a stellar start to life back in the colours of Real Madrid.
Following his summer arrival from Benfica, the 22-year-old has wasted little time in establishing himself as one of Los Blancos’ star performers.
This past weekend, however, Carreras was brought back down to earth with a thud.
En route to a 5-2 Madrid Derby drubbing at the hands of Atlético, the left-back endured an outing to forget, struggling badly on both sides of the ball.
In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to hear of Carreras, on Tuesday, being dropped to the bench.
For the first time since his defensive star’s arrival, Xabi Alonso has opted not to include Carreras in his starting XI, ahead of a Champions League meeting with Kairat this evening:
