Real Madrid star could face up to a 12-match ban for actions in Barcelona defeat

An alarming update on the sanction potentially awaiting Real Madrid star Antonio Rüdiger has on Sunday come to the fore.

Defender Rüdiger of course took his place front and centre in the headlines across Spain late yesterday evening.

This came after the former Chelsea man completely lost his cool, during the dying moments of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

En route to a 3-2 extra-time loss for his side, Rüdiger was hooked from proceedings by boss Carlo Ancelotti late on.

After a controversial late decision went against his side, though, the German exploded from the bench, screaming, ranting, and even throwing an object in the direction of referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea.

Teammates and members of staff were forced to intervene, to ensure that Rüdiger did not spiral completely out of control.

But if the latest word stemming from the press on Sunday is anything to go by, the damage may well already have been done.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Antonio Rüdiger could be banned for between four and 12 matches after being sent-off in the Copa del Rey final for “throwing an object” at referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea.’
