Real Madrid star closing on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League club record

Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. this week inched ever closer to a club record currently held by Blancos icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

This came courtesy of his creative exploits in Real Madrid’s Champions League meeting with Olympiacos.

Xabi Alonso’s troops of course secured a much-needed return to winning ways on Wednesday, in the Greek capital of Athens.

Kylian Mbappé proved himself the star of the show, notching all four of the visitors’ goals in a 4-3 triumph.

But attacking partner Vinícius was also in nothing short of blistering form.

From his berth on the left, the Brazilian caused Olympiacos’ backline all sorts of problems, culminating in a wonderful pair of assists.

And owing to as much, Vinícius closed on Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time Champions League benchmark.

As revealed by OneFootball, the 25-year-old now has 27 assists in Europe’s top tier competition in the colours of Real Madrid.

The only player to have managed more with Los Merengues is five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo, who laid on 31 Champions League assists during his own iconic stint at the Bernabéu.
