Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has left supporters of the club bemused, with his comments in the aftermath of their latest outing.
This comes after the Uruguayan revealed his take that Los Blancos were in ‘great’ form on Sunday.
Real of course marked their return to action on the domestic front earlier today, welcoming Rayo Vallecano to the Bernabéu for a La Liga clash.
When all was said and done, Álvaro Arbeloa’s troops got the job done, emerging on the right side of a 2-1 result to close the gap on table-topping Barcelona to just a solitary point once more.
As much, though, required a last-gasp spot-kick, as well as a pair of Rayo red cards.
The general consensus was that the evening’s hosts, despite being the better side on the day, looked some way short of their best yet again.
In turn, it came as something of a surprise when the aforementioned Fede Valverde had the following to say to the media post-match:
“I think we played a great game. We needed to change our image after what happened (vs Benfica).”
And such comments have since sparked quite the backlash across the Real Madrid fanbase, as the Blancos faithful take firm aim at Valverde online:
