A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid was left surprised upon learning of his status as Man of the Match in the club’s latest outing.
The player in question? Arda Güler.
Real Madrid were of course back in action on the continent on Wednesday evening.
After welcoming Italian heavyweights Juventus to Spain’s capital for a Champions League clash, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of an eventual 1-0 result.
The aforementioned Arda was for his part afforded a starting berth in the fixture, from his new berth in the middle of the park.
And the Turk went on to thoroughly impress, controlling proceedings once more amid what has been a stellar individual opening to the campaign.
Arda, in turn, was rewarded for his efforts with the Man of the Match award at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking to the media following the full-time whistle, though, the 20-year-old admitted that he was left ‘surprised’ by as much:
“Man of the Match award? I was surprised because I don’t play for this, I play to win. I didn’t realise I was Man of the Match!”
