La Liga giants Real Madrid have confirmed the withdrawal of a member of the club’s defensive ranks for their upcoming meeting with minnows Talavera.
The player in question? Raúl Asencio.
Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action later this evening.
Fresh off a return to winning ways in La Liga over the weekend, Los Blancos have turned focus towards matters in the cup.
Kicking their Copa del Rey campaign into gear, Xabi Alonso’s troops will make the trip to minnows Talavera with a spot in the competition’s Last-16 on the line.
Real unveiled their travelling squad for the fixture on Wednesday afternoon, featuring a whole host of absences.
Then, at the last minute, one of those initially called upon was also removed from Alonso’s ranks.
As alluded to above, Raúl Asencio, widely tipped to start against Talavera, was left in Madrid at the last minute.
As per an ensuing report from Marca:
‘The center-back has a fever and, for obvious reasons, did not travel with his teammates to Talavera.’
