The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week moved to secure the long-term future of star attacker Vinícius Jr. This comes amid confirmation of a new contract offer having been sent the way of the Brazilian.
Winger Vinícius continues to dominate the media headlines across Spain and Europe alike. 12 months out from the expiration of his current terms with the aforementioned Real Madrid, Premier League champions Arsenal have identified the 26-year-old as a market opportunity.
The Gunners, in turn, have spent recent days pushing hard to find a deal of their own with Vinícius and his entourage.
As alluded to above, though, on Wednesday, Mikel Arteta and co. have seen their hopes of what would be a groundbreaking signing dealt a heavy blow.
The info comes courtesy of the reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports:
‘Real Madrid have made an improved contract offer to Vinicius Junior. Sources with knowledge of Wednesday’s discussions, granted anonymity to protect relationships, indicate the club have now raised their offer to a level that reflects Vinicius Jr’s importance to them and the project.’
The ball, as a result, is now very much in the court of the player, whose response is expected imminently.
