La Liga giants Real Madrid have positioned themselves in the race for a member of the defensive ranks at Borussia Dortmund.
That’s according to European transfer insider Ekrem Konur, amongst others, who point towards Nico Schlotterbeck as the player in question.
The name of stopper Schlotterbeck has emerged as an altogether prominent one in the Spanish media chatter over recent days.
This comes amid the understanding that those in the boardroom at Barcelona have earmarked the German as a future transfer target.
Schlotterbeck, as things stand, is due to see his contract terms at Signal Iduna Park expire in 2027, meaning he could be available for a cut-price fee next summer.
Barca, though, are not the only La Liga club keeping a close eye on the situation.
As per a report from the aforementioned Ekrem Konur, amid an ongoing search for fresh blood at the back:
‘Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Schlotterbeck, who’s delaying decisions to leave room for a top-tier move.’
