Real Madrid reach agreement with Alphonso Davies, as stance on Barcelona move revealed

A major update on the future of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has come to the fore on Monday afternoon.

And the news will no doubt come as music to the ears of all those hopeful of the defender linking up with long-time suitors Real Madrid in the summer.

This comes amid confirmation that Davies has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Real, over the terms of a contract.

As per a report from the reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic:

‘Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies have reached a verbal agreement for the Bayern Munich left-back to join in 2024 or 2025.’

The accord in question centers on two options – either Davies joins Los Blancos this coming summer for a reduced fee, or in the summer of 2025 upon the expiration of his contract with Bayern.

With the German champions eager not to lose another key performer to Real Madrid for nothing – as proved the case with David Alaba – a transfer coming to fruition with a view to next season therefore looks the most likely outcome as things stand.

So, what of the interest of Real’s chief rivals, Barcelona, in Davies’ services?

It was of course revealed last week that Barca chief Deco had sat down for a meeting with the Canadian’s entourage, to discuss the terms of a potential deal.

The Athletic, however, have confirmed that, whilst the Blaugrana did indeed express an interest, ‘Davies’ preference at this stage is to move to Madrid’.
