La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week officially opened negotiations with Premier League outfit Manchester City over a deal for Rodri.
This of course comes amid mounting speculation over the last week that Los Blancos had identified the 30-year-old as a leading transfer target.
Rodri, fresh off being named the standout player at this summer’s World Cup, is due to see his contract terms in Manchester expire in less than 12 months’ time.
With the Ballon d’Or winner having long made clear his eagerness to return to his home country of Spain, the board at the aforementioned Real Madrid therefore recently confirmed their intention to move for his signing.
An agreement on the terms of a contract for the seasons ahead, in turn, was quickly found with Rodri and his representatives.
And as alluded to above, with a deal for Yan Diomandé now also in place, Florentino Pérez and co. have for the first time made contact with the Man City hierarchy.
As per a report from market expert Fabrizio Romano:
‘Real Madrid have approached Manchester City for Rodri for the first time. Negotiations have started with verbal discussions between clubs. Florentino Pérez has given approval to the deal after doors closed for months. Real indicate they are ready to spend over €50m.’
