The latest comments on the part of former Real Madrid star Luís Figo have piqued attentions in Spain’s capital on Saturday afternoon.
This comes after the Portuguese icon forwarded a piece of advice to long-time Blancos target Kylian Mbappé.
It is of course widespread knowledge across the world of football that frontman Mbappé is currently locked in negotiations with the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As much comes with Florentino Pérez and co. desperate to tie up a deal for a player who has been in their sights for the best part of half a decade now, ahead of the imminent expiration of his terms with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking in a press conference on Friday, however, Mbappé was keen to reiterate that there remains no news of relevance to announce when it comes to his future.
Though the logical response from a player who does not want to upset his current employers, the 25-year-old’s comments nevertheless gave rise to murmurs that, perhaps, a deal with Real is not quite as close to being found as hoped.
One individual, though, of the opinion that Mbappé would be missing out in the case of deciding against linking up with Real Madrid, comes in the form of the aforementioned Luís Figo.
Speaking whilst in attendance at the Bernabéu for the 2024 Corazón Classic match on Saturday, ex-Blancos standout Figo revealed his take that no other club in world football can offer the same level of ‘prestige’ as the capital outfit:
“Kylian Mbappé? It is a very personal decision. But in terms of global prestige, no team can offer you as much as Real Madrid.”
