Sections of the Real Madrid fanbase have flooded to social media this evening, to make their frustrations with midfield stars Luka Modrić and Federico Valverde crystal clear.
This comes after both members of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad gave their backing to Lionel Messi as part of the voting process for the latest ‘The Best’ award.
The accolade, handed out by FIFA on an annual basis, seeks to honour the standout performer across all of world football over the prior 12 months.
The latest ‘The Best’ ceremony was held earlier this evening, with Lionel Messi having emerged triumphant for a record-setting third time.
This only came, though, after a tie vote between the Argentine and Manchester City frontman Erling Haaland meant that the ultimate winner was decided by way of 1st place ballots from international captains.
Two such players to have had Messi atop their respective voting podiums, meanwhile, come in the form of the aforementioned Luka Modrić, and Fede Valverde.
And, safe to say, such actions have not gone down at all well across the Real Madrid fanbase.
As showcased below, the respective Instagram accounts of Modrić and Valverde have been flooded with abusive comments on Monday, from ‘fans’ evidently still resentful of Messi for his successes on the Barcelona side of the Clásico divide:
