Real Madrid extend lead as club with most penalties won in Top-5 leagues

La Liga giants Real Madrid added to their advantage atop the list of Europe’s most prolific penalty winners on Saturday night.

This came by way of another pair of spot-kicks.

Real Madrid of course marked their return to action yesterday evening, welcoming Real Sociedad to Spain’s capital for a league clash.

When all was said and done, Álvaro Arbeloa’s troops emerged on the right side of a 4-1 result, to leapfrog Barcelona back to the top of the La Liga table.

And along the way, the hosts were aided by a fresh round of spot-kick calls in their favour.

Vinícius Jr. was responsible for winning two penalties across the 90 minutes, both of which the Brazilian went on to dispatch.

This took Real Madrid’s tally for the season to date to 13 penalties won in league play.

This is four more than any other club in Europe’s top-5 leagues, followed by German champions Bayern Munich with nine.
