Real Madrid ‘did not understand’ Xabi Alonso’s treatment of one player

The board at La Liga giants Real Madrid were left bemused by the lack of game time afforded to Endrick by former manager Xabi Alonso.

This of course comes after the Brazilian was left glued to the bench by the Spanish tactician.

The name of youngster Endrick has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Madrid over recent days.

This comes after the Brazilian kept alive what has been an impressive start to life on loan at Olympique Marseille.

Endrick has now taken to the pitch on three occasions in the colours of Lyon, giving rise to a head-turning five direct goal contributions.

His breakout performance came this past weekend, when the 19-year-old bagged a hat-trick in a Ligue 1 meeting with Metz.

Such form has inevitably culminated in widespread chatter back at his parent club.

Endrick was afforded just three appearances at Real Madrid over the opening half of the term, after falling behind Gonzalo García in the centre-forward pecking order of new manager Xabi Alonso.

And as alluded to above, left surprised by as much were those in a position of power at the Bernabéu.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Those behind the scenes at Madrid did not understand Alonso’s decision to give Endrick so few opportunities, which led to the striker asking to leave in January.’
