Those behind the scenes at La Liga giants Real Madrid were left thrilled by the performance put forth by a member of the club’s academy ranks at the U20 World Cup.
The player in question? Fran González.
Goalkeeper Fran was for his part afforded a call-up to the Spanish national team for this month’s U20 World Cup.
And the youngster quickly went on to establish himself as first-choice between the posts in La Rojita’s squad.
Fran was afforded starts in all five of his country’s fixtures at the tournament.
And though Spain endured something of a hit-and-miss time of things en route to being sent packing at the quarter-final stage, the 20-year-old for his part shone bright.
The highlight of Fran’s tournament came in a must-win group stage fixture against Brazil, when his performance en route to a clean sheet was described as nothing short of ‘epic’.
And such excellence, as alluded to above, did not go unnoticed back at his club.
As per a report from Diario AS:
‘He has been the most outstanding of the fleet of Real Madrid players who made the trip to this championship. Fran González made a splash in Chile, and Real Madrid are delighted.’
