A remarkable statistic has come to the fore online this week, highlighting the ongoing defensive excellence of Real Madrid summer signing Marc Cucurella at the World Cup.
Stopper Cucurella has of course played a leading role for Spain across the summer to date.
From his berth at left-back, the former Chelsea man has featured from the off in all seven of La Roja’s fixtures at the World Cup, most recently contributing to a 2-0 semi-final downing of France on Tuesday night.
His standout performance in the attacking third came against Austria, when Cucurella laid on two of Spain’s three goals.
As alluded to above, though, it is the 27-year-old’s defensive talents which have given rise to an altogether head-turning statistic surfacing online.
As revealed by Spanish journalist Albert Ortega, Cucurella has not been dribbled past a single time in any of his last five appearances at the World Cup.
