Real Madrid consulted with Arda Güler before securing summer signing

Those in a position of power at La Liga giants Real Madrid pulled Arda Güler to one side, to reassure the youngster before pushing a deal for River Plate sensation Franco Mastantuono over the line.

That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

Argentine international Mastantuono is of course one of several high-profile players to have agreed to deals with Real Madrid this summer.

After another starring year on the books of River Plate in his home country, the 17-year-old was snapped up in a big-money transfer with a view to the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite his tender years, Mastantuono is expected to play a prominent role in Xabi Alonso’s XI next season.

With as much in mind, the Blancos coaching staff therefore felt it only right to hold a discussion with fellow youngster Arda Güler earlier this summer.

This came with a view to reassuring the Turk of his own place in the club’s plans.

As revealed by Blancos insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic:

‘When Madrid executives and the coach were pushing to finalise the signing of Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, Guler knew he would be playing as a midfielder this season. He was told that the arrival of the Argentine, who plays on the right wing, would not pose a threat to his playing time.’
