Real Madrid concerned by form of defender David Alaba

The powers that be at Real Madrid are growing increasingly concerned by the current spell of form being endured by star defender David Alaba.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have given an insight into the Austrian’s situation in Spain’s capital.

Alaba was afforded his latest start at the heart of Carlo Ancelotti’s backline, for Madrid’s Champions League group stage meeting with Union Berlin in midweek.

And though Los Blancos ultimately went on to emerge triumphant, the former Bayern Munich man sparked concern, owing to an individual error leading to Union’s opener.

This marks just the latest in a string of mistakes on his part across the season to date, with AS also pointing towards Alaba costing his side against all of Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Betis.

And as much has not gone unnoticed at the Santiago Bernabéu.

It is understood that the hope was for the 31-year-old to have been moved back to the flank by this point in his career in Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti, however, remains insistent on utilising Alaba as a central defender, with the long-term injury suffered by Éder Militão having limited the options at the disposal of the Italian, too.

Nevertheless, Florentino Pérez and co. are keeping a close eye on their stuttering stopper, ‘whose errors worry Real Madrid more and more’.
