Real Madrid boss Alonso wanted two more signing this summer

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso was keen for a further pair of reinforcements to arrive in his squad this past summer.

That’s according to The Athletic, who have early this week provided an insight into the situation.

Real Madrid are of course fresh off a productive couple of months on the signings front.

After appointing first-choice managerial target Alonso to replace Carlo Ancelotti, quickly following was a free agent deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Then, Florentino Pérez and co. opened the chequebook, to secure the big-money additions of all of Dean Huijsen, Franco Mastantuono and Álvaro Carreras.

As alluded to above, though, had Los Blancos’ new boss had his way, the club’s outlay would not have ended there.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of The Athletic that:

‘Ideally Alonso would have liked more reinforcements. Sources close to Alonso suggested to The Athletic that two more signings were necessary, although one of those was if Rodrygo had left.’
