Real Madrid already have an in-house solution in mind if Xabi Alonso is sacked

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid could well turn to an in-house profile, in the case of Xabi Alonso being sent on his way over the weeks ahead.

The subject of Alonso’s future on the bench in Spain’s capital has of course been a prominent one in the headlines for some time now.

This comes amid the understanding that, just months into his debut campaign, the ex-midfielder’s status as Real Madrid headmaster is not secure.

Los Blancos have struggled for performances and results alike over recent weeks, now four points adrift of arch rivals Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title.

Though Florentino Pérez and co. are not ready to pull the trigger on his dismissal just yet, Alonso will in turn need to turn things around in short order to solidify his position.

Should as much not come to fruition, and the Spaniard be sent on his way, though, the Real Madrid board already have a potential successor in mind…

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Madrid have a shortlist of candidates in case they decide to part ways with Alonso, with Alvaro Arbeloa highly regarded for the position.’

Arbeloa is for his part currently in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, in Spanish football’s third tier.
