Real Madrid add surprise name to managerial shortlist for next season

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have added a somewhat surprising profile to their list of managerial targets for next season.

That’s according to ESPN, who highlight Mauricio Pochettino as the tactician in question.

Real Madrid are of course currently keeping a close eye on the managerial market.

With Álvaro Arbeloa considered something of a stopgap solution on the touchline in Spain’s capital, the former full-back is expected to be on the move upon the season’s close.

A whole host of high-profile managers from across the world of football have in turn been tipped as potential installations on the Blancos bench.

And as alluded to above, this week, an altogether surprising name has been added to this list.

As per a report from ESPN:

‘Real Madrid have Mauricio Pochettino on the shortlist of candidates to replace Álvaro Arbeloa ahead next season. Sources say that Madrid are evaluating different candidates to lead the new sporting project and that Pochettino is one of the coaches highly regarded by president Florentino Pérez.’

Pochettino, who has previously taken up the reins at the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, is currently in charge of the USA national team.
