Real Betis turned down a €22m transfer offer before the transfer deadline

La Liga outfit Real Betis knocked back a proposal for a leading member of the club’s midfield ranks in the buildup to this week’s transfer deadline.

That’s according to market insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Sergi Altimira as the player in question.

Altimira, for his part, is fresh off a season which saw him develop into one of the most important figures in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.

All told, the 24-year-old racked up 32 La Liga appearances, impressing from his berth at the base of Real Betis’ midfield.

As alluded to above, though, late in the summer window, the Verdiblancos were the recipients of an enticing offer for Altimira, which, in the end, they made the call to reject.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:

‘Real Betis turned down a proposal from Eintracht Frankfurt for Sergi Altimira at the end of August. The proposal was worth €18.5m plus add-ons up to €22.5m on loan with mandatory buy clause.’
