A member of the summer recruitment drive at La Liga outfit Real Betis has revealed that he knocked back an offer from the club’s most bitter rivals to ultimately link up with Manuel Pellegrini’s troops.
The player in question? Sofyan Amrabat.
Midfielder Amrabat for his part secured a deadline day move to Spain last week.
As the window entered its final hours, the Moroccan put pen to paper on terms with the aforementioned Betis.
Amrabat has joined the Verdiblancos on loan for the season ahead, from Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahçe.
As alluded to above, though, Real Betis were not the only Seville-based club to have expressed an interest in the former Manchester United man in the final days of the window.
Speaking during an interview with his new club’s official media channels, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, early this week, Amrabat explained:
“The last few days have been very crazy for me, first because of the team’s elimination from the Champions League and also because of the dismissal of the manager (Mourinho). In the last few days I received offers; I wanted to stay, but after being eliminated from the Champions League, I decided to leave. Offers came from Saudi Arabia and also from Sevilla, but when Betis’ interest came, I was clear that I wanted to come here.”
