Real Betis set sights on Sporting CP star

The powers that be at La Liga outfit Real Betis have identified a member of the defensive ranks at Sporting CP as a potential summer signing.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Portuguese sources, who point towards Iván Fresneda as the player in question.

Right-back Fresneda, for his part, secured a move to the Primeira Liga with Sporting last summer.

The Lisbon giants beat out competition from a whole host of rival suitors for his signature, with the 19-year-old having been widely considered as a potential star in the making in Spain.

Safe to say, however, that his debut campaign on Sporting’s books did not go at all according to plan.

In fact, owing to a combination of fitness problems and sheer lack of form, Fresneda was afforded just five league appearances.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of the youngster being tipped for a swift return to his home country.

As per Record, via MD, in the case of an offer deemed as acceptable landing on the club’s desks, the brass at Sporting CP would be open to Fresneda’s sale.

And ready to take advantage of such a stance, it is understood, are Real Betis.

Amid ongoing efforts to reinforce Manuel Pellegrini’s options at right-back, the Verdiblancos are ready to seek out an initial loan deal, featuring either an option or obligation to buy, for Fresneda.

It now remains to be seen whether such a proposal would be of interest to their counterparts at the Estádio José Alvalade.
