La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano are actively working to close a deal for a member of the defensive ranks at French giants Olympique Marseille before the upcoming transfer deadline.
This comes amid confirmation of the brass at Vallecas having set their sights firmly on the services of Derek Cornelius.
Stopper Cornelius is for his part fresh off a return to base in Marseille earlier this summer. After struggling to establish himself as a regular during a loan stint in Scotland, Rangers opted against making the Canadian international’s signing permanent.
Considered surplus to requirements in Bruno Génésio’s squad, too, Cornelius has in turn been widely tipped for a fresh Marseille exit over the days ahead.
And as alluded to above, on Monday, a new potential landing spot for the 28-year-old has emerged, in Spanish football. As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Rayo Vallecano are in talks to sign Canadian international central back Derek Cornelius from OM. Negotiations ongoing on loan with buy option from Olympique Marseille.’
