The transfer saga surrounding Athletic Club forward Nico Williams is set to heat up following the conclusion of Euro 2024. The Spaniard returns as a champion with his sensational performances attracting interest from Barcelona and Premier League clubs.
Williams is set to return to Athletic Club in a few weeks’ time after he has had his holidays. The 22-year-old ideally wants his future clarified before he returns and it is extremely likely that he leaves Athletic Club.
It was widely reported that Barca were the favourites to land the electric winger, however according to The Athletic, the club’s poor financial situation could see them miss out on their priority target. The English outlet also revealed that Chelsea would love to sign the Spaniard with the London club having already carried out long-term groundwork on him.
Williams is high on the club’s list of targets in one of their priority positions. They believe they are well placed to secure his signature, but are aware of Barca’s interest and the player’s desire to stay in La Liga.
Athletic Club ideally want to keep the player however Chelsea are monitoring the situation and will look to accelerate their attempts to sign the winger if they are given strong indications that he is willing to make the switch from La Liga to the Premier League.
