Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola has responded to an offer to become the new head coach of the Italian national team.
This comes amid confirmation that, after mulling over the proposition, the Spaniard has made the call not to take his place on the Azzurri bench.
Guardiola is for his part of course fresh off bringing to a close his trophy-laden stint in the dugout at Premier League heavyweights Manchester City.
After a full ten years at The Etihad, the 55-year-old made the call to take a well-earned break from the game for the year ahead.
Despite their knowledge of as much, amid an ongoing search for a new manager, those in a position of power in the Italian national team setup recently made contact with Guardiola and his entourage.
This culminated in a round of negotiations between the parties, and an offer being tendered to the former midfielder for an immediate return to the touchline.
As alluded to above, however, after careful consideration, Guardiola has opted against taking his managerial talents to Italy.
As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Pep Guardiola says no to Italian national team head coach job offered by the Federation. Guardiola considered the proposal this week but wants to dedicate time to his family, recharge and return to football later on.’
