Pep Guardiola provides his take on Xavi’s Barcelona sacking

Barcelona icon Pep Guardiola was this afternoon drawn on the decision of his former club to part ways with head coach Xavi.

The news which had been touted in Catalunya’s capital for a full week now was of course finally made official a short time ago.

In a statement across the club’s website and social media platforms, Barcelona announced that they have come to the decision to dismiss Xavi from his position on the club’s bench for next season.

Sunday’s La Liga finale against Sevilla will mark the 44-year-old’s last in his role.

Word of Barcelona’s decision, which of course comes just weeks on from Xavi’s continuity for 2024/25 being confirmed, has since been met by a wave of backlash across the continent.

Those of a Blaugrana persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be interested to hear of one of the club’s most iconic-ever figures this afternoon providing his take on the situation.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup final showdown with neighbours United on Saturday, Pep Guardiola was drawn on friend and compatriot Xavi’s sacking.

And the Spaniard, in his response, went on to explain:

“Well, what can I say? It’s never good news because something didn’t work out when that happens, when a club handles something wrong, but the reasons for what happened, I don’t know, so I can’t give my opinion. When I go to Barcelona and talk to some people there, maybe I will know, but now I don’t know.”
