Speaking to BBC Sport after Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Liverpool on Thursday night, head coach Pep Guardiola admitted he believes young Spanish defender Eric García deserves to be in his side’s starting XI.
“He’s so intelligent. He guides the line incredibly well. A guy who is beloved, I know from his career at Barcelona, every single season he was the captain, nominated by his team-mates. That shows his personality. He doesn’t make mistakes and whatever he has to do, he does it properly. He listens and wants to learn all the time and therefore deserves to play. He communicates with his team-mates and he’s so young, just 19!”
García was a product of Barcelona’s academy La Masia, before joining Man City in 2017. The 19-year-old joined up with the first team during their 2018 summer pre-season and in December 2018, made his debut for City’s first-team.
