Athletic Club are on the verge of tying up a deal for a member of the defensive ranks at La Liga rivals Osasuna.
That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, who points towards Jesús Areso as the player in question.
Right-back Areso is for his part fresh off a fine campaign on the books of the aforementioned Osasuna in 2024/25.
All told, across the Rojillos’ 38 La Liga outings, the 26-year-old featured from the off in all but three.
His performances along the way had long given rise to rumours surrounding mounting interest in Areso’s signature from across the Spanish football landscape, with Athletic Club at the front of the queue.
And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media over the last 24 hours is anything to go by, then the Basque outfit now appear closer than ever to landing their man.
As per a report from journalist Matteo Moretto:
‘Jesús Areso is very close to joining Athletic Club. Negotiations with Osasuna are advanced, but there is still no agreement on the final transfer fee. The release clause is €12m.’
