Official: Xavi to leave Barcelona at end of season

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has late on Saturday confirmed his intention to depart his post upon the close of the campaign.

This comes fresh off another damaging defeat for the Blaugrana, at the hands of Villarreal.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle bringing proceedings to a close in Catalunya, Xavi first appeared to suggest that he maintained the support of the powers that be at the club.

But, in an ensuing statement a short time ago, relayed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish tactician admitted that this season will be his last on the Barca bench.

Citing ‘a point of no return’, he explained:

“I will leave Barcelona in June.

“We have reached a point of no return. It’s time for change. As a Culé, I think that it’s time to leave.

“I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June.”
