Official: Valencia star’s contract extended

La Liga outfit Valencia have on Thursday announced the contract renewal of winger/defender Luis Rioja.

This comes courtesy of a clause in the terms signed by the Spaniard at Mestalla in the summer of 2024.

Rioja has long established himself as an important figure in Valencia’s first-team ranks, with 49 appearances to his name since arriving from Deportivo Alavés a little over a year ago.

Along the way, he has chipped in with a solid haul of 12 direct goal contributions, four of which have come over the early months of the current campaign.

And as alluded to above, this week, such endeavours have proven enough for Rioja to secure for himself a contract extension.

As per a statement across Valencia’s website and social media platforms:

‘Valencia CF have activated the contract extension of Luis Rioja through June 30th, 2027.

‘The Valencia CF winger had an automatic extension clause in his deal that would activate once he reached a certain number of appearances. As a show of confidence and recognition of his performance, professionalism, and commitment, the Club has chosen to trigger the clause early, extending his stay for another season.’
