La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to be without the services of captain and defensive star Dani Carvajal for the weeks ahead.
This comes amid confirmation of a fresh injury blow suffered by the experienced full-back.
As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms:
‘Following tests carried out on our captain Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with the presence of a loose body in his right knee joint. Carvajal will now undergo an arthroscopy.’
Carvajal of course played his part on Sunday evening, as Real Madrid secured a long-awaited victory over arch rivals Barcelona.
En route to a 2-1 Blancos triumph, the Spanish international was introduced off the bench during the 2nd-half, replacing Federico Valverde at right-back.
This marked Carvajal’s comeback to the pitch following a prior spell on the treatment table with a muscular issue.
It is currently unclear just how long he is likely to be unavailable to manager Xabi Alonso.
