Official: Real Madrid star left out of squad for Racing Santander clash

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid remains unavailable for selection at present. This comes amid confirmation that Federico Valverde has not been called up to face Racing Santander.

Valverde, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Real Madrid’s most recent outing.

After slotting in at right-back for Los Blancos’ showdown with arch rivals Barcelona, the Uruguayan was forced off just beyond the hour mark with a muscular complaint.

Speaking to the media post-match, José Mourinho revealed that Valverde had actually played through the pain barrier for 40 minutes, after suffering the problem during the first-half.

After spending several days on the treatment table, the hope was that the 28-year-old would be given the medical green light in time to play his part against Racing Santander on Sunday.

As alluded to above, however, this has ultimately not proven to be the case. Upon José Mourinho’s travelling party to face Racing being unveiled on Saturday, Valverde was nowhere to be seen:
