Real Madrid icon Luka Modrić has officially booked his spot at the 2026 World Cup.
This means that, fitness permitting, the veteran midfielder is primed to play his part on international football’s biggest stage for the 5th time next summer.
Modrić’s Croatia ensured a top spot finish in Europe’s Group L qualifying table on Friday evening.
This came courtesy of a 3-1 victory over surprise package the Faroe Islands, who would have closed to within a point of Croatia in the case of securing a win of their own.
Modrić for his part featured from the off in the fixture, enoying a predictably solid showing from his berth in the middle of the park.
The former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur standout, now 40 years of age, is currently plying his club trade in Serie A, with AC Milan.
Modrić has taken to Italian football like a duck to water since his summer arrival, standing out as one of Serie A’s very best performers to this point in the season.
