Official: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returns to La Liga

Former Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has on Friday officially secured a return to the top-flight of Spanish football.

This comes after Deportivo La Coruña announced a cut-price deal for the veteran frontman.

Depor are for their part of course currently preparing for a year back in La Liga. Following an eight-year absence, the Galician outfit – once considered one of Spanish football’s leading sides – booked their place back in the top tier courtesy of a runners-up finish in La Liga 2 last time out.

The board at the Estadio Riazor have in turn spent recent weeks working tirelessly to bring in experienced reinforcements, ready for a battle against an immediate return to the 2nd tier.

And as alluded to above, late this week, Deportivo have secured for themselves precisely that. As per a statement across the club’s social media platforms:

‘RC Deportivo incorporates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Laval, France, June 18, 1989), who becomes a new branquiazul footballer after signing until June 2028.’

Aubameyang, who racked up 10 goals and five assists in Ligue 1 with Marseille last season, is understood to have set Depor back a fee in the region of €1.5 million.
