The three clubs relegated from La Liga to the 2nd division of Spanish football have on Saturday been confirmed.
This comes owing to developments in the season’s final round of fixtures.
Heading into this afternoon, two of the teams relegated from Spain’s top-flight had already been mathematically confirmed, with Real Valladolid and Las Palmas facing up to a year back in the Segunda.
This left Espanyol and Leganés to battle it out for survival, in respective meetings with bottom two Las Palmas, and Real Valladolid.
And when all was said and done, it was the former who ensured their La Liga status for at least another 12 months.
Whilst Leganés were busy making short work of Valladolid to the tune of a 3-0 triumph, Espanyol proved too much for Las Palmas, to the tune of a 2-0 victory of their own.
As much saw the Periquitos jump all the way up to 14th in the table, leaving Leganés 18th, a point off safety with no games left to play.
