La Liga’s players have announced their intention to stage a protest against the decision to sanction the upcoming meeting between Barcelona and Villarreal being played in the USA.
The subject of the fast-approaching Barcelona vs Villarreal fixture has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines over the last couple of weeks.
As much comes after UEFA announced that they had reluctantly given the go ahead to the outing being played in Miami, Florida.
This would mark the first occasion on which a La Liga fixture has ever been contested outside of Spain.
The ruling has since sparked widespread bemusement across the Spanish football landscape, amid suggestions of the integrity of La Liga as a whole being brought into disrepute.
And as alluded to above, this coming weekend, an official protest has therefore been put in place.
As per a report from COPE:
‘OFFICIAL | Statement from the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) announcing the protest at the start of the matches of Matchday 9 of LaLiga, as we have reported.
’15 seconds at the beginning of each match.
‘Barça and Villarreal excluded, by decision of the union.’
