A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has been left out of the club’s squad to face Atlético Madrid.
The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.
Dutch international De Jong sat out this past weekend, as Barcelona put Deportivo Alavés to the sword to reclaim their spot atop the table.
This came owing to what were described as personal reasons.
Since spotted back in training over the last couple of days, the assumption, in turn, was that the former Ajax man would return to matchday duties later this evening.
As much comes as Hansi Flick’s troops prepare for a crunch showdown with in-form Atlético Madrid.
As alluded to above, however, this has not proven to be the case
Barca’s squad for the night was unveiled online on Tuesday, with De Jong surprisingly nowhere to be seen.
An update on the situation is expected in the hours leading up to kick-off at the Spotify Camp Nou.
