Official | Jorge Sampaoli becomes Sevilla head coach

Sevilla have appointed Jorge Sampaoli as their new head coach on a deal until 2024. The Argentinian returns to the La Liga outfit for his second spell in charge.

Sampaoli worked with Sevilla during sporting director Monchi’s first spell at the club in the 2016-17 campaign and finished fourth with 72 points. His first training schedule with the Sevilla squad has been scheduled for this evening at 6.30 pm local time.

Jorge Desio, Diogo Meschine and Pablo Fernández have all joined Sevilla as part of Sampaoli’s coaching staff.

The Andalusian side are currently 17th in the La Liga table, with their next league game coming against Ernesto Valverde’s in-form Athletic Club on Saturday 8 October.

Former boss Julen Lopetegui was relieved of his duties after Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

In recent times, Sampaoli returned to Europe to coach Marseille in Ligue 1, finishing fifth and a very strong second last season, which allowed the French side to reach the Champions League.
