La Liga outfit Girona have announced a major setback on the personnel front in the club’s first-team ranks.
This comes amid confirmation that experienced attacker Portu has suffered a tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Catalan club:
‘Cristian Portugués has suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The injury occurred during Wednesday’s training session. This afternoon, Dr. Ramon Cugat visited the player, who will undergo surgery tomorrow. Girona FC offers its full support to the player during this difficult time and wishes him a swift and successful recovery.’
Portu had for his part featured in 10 of Girona’s 12 La Liga outings across the season to date.
The widespread expectation, however, is that the 33-year-old will not be seen in the colours of the Blanquivermells again until the 2026/27 campaign.
