A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has made the call to pull the curtain on his playing career at just 31 years of age.
The player in question? Samuel Umtiti.
World Cup winner Umtiti of course spent seven years on the books of the aforementioned Barcelona, between 2016 and 2023.
The stopper’s time in Catalunya’s capital, however, was blighted by injury problems, restricting him to a total of less than 100 La Liga appearances.
Umtiti most recently lined out for Ligue 1 outfit Lille, but failed to manage a single appearance last season.
In turn, his contract was not renewed, with the Frenchman having over the summer become available as a free agent.
And as alluded to above, after failing to find a new club, Umtiti, this week, has officially opted to hang up his boots.
We at Get Football News wish the defender all the best in his next chapter.
