A highly-regarded member of the youth ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona will next week be forced under the knife.
The player in question? Òscar Gistau.
Gistau, for his part, is a 17-year-old striker, widely considered to be a future senior star in the making.
Despite his tender years, the Spaniard has been tipped by many as Barcelona’s future no.9, hailed for his goalscoring instincts and technical ability alike.
Gistau is currently sharing time between Barca’s U19 outfit, and Barca Atlètic.
As alluded to above, however, late this week, the youngster has been dealt a blow on the fitness front.
Gistau suffered an injury whilst in action last weekend, which has since been confirmed to have culminated in damage to the meniscus in the attacker’s knee.
The Blaugrana medical staff, in turn, have made the call for Gistau to undergo a surgical procedure.
As per a statement across the social media platforms of Barca Atlètic on Friday:
‘The Barça Atlètic player Òscar Gistau will undergo surgery next Tuesday, October 7, for an injury to the external meniscus of the left knee. Upon completion of the operation, the Club will issue a new medical statement.’
