Another leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week secured for himself a place at this summer’s fast-approaching World Cup.
This comes amid confirmation that Frenkie de Jong has been named in the Netherlands’ squad for the showcase.
Midfielder De Jong is for his part fresh off something of a hit-and-miss campaign in Catalunya’s capital in 2025/26.
Hampered once again by a string of niggling fitness problems, the former Ajax man managed starts in less than half of Barcelona’s fixtures between La Liga and the Champions League.
De Jong for the most part impressed across his time on the pitch, but found himself knocked down the engine room pecking order in Hansi Flick’s squad over the term’s final months.
As alluded to above, though, such woes have not proven enough to impact the 29-year-old’s central place in the Dutch national team setup.
As confirmed by way of a release across social media on Wednesday, De Jong has been named in Ronald Koeman’s Oranje squad for the 2026 World Cup:
